Brittany Region
Situated in North West France, Brittany is very proud of it’s distinctive Celtic culture which includes it’s own language. Brittany has magnificent scenery, wonderful beaches ,enchanting islands and beautiful inland fairytale forests (try Baimport) . The landscape ranges from wild Atlantic coastlines with steep cliffs and picturesque fishing ports to quiet coves and long sandy beaches ideal for a family break. There is something for everyone in Brittany with activities and sightseeing to fill every day to the maximum.
Towns and Cities
Brittany contains many fine historic cities of great interest and beauty, these include Rennes, Nantes, medieval Quimper and St. Malo founded by French and Irish missionary saints. Also visit Dinan, a beautiful town with it’s castle encircled 3km of by ramparts. In the south at Carnac see some of the amazing stone megaliths famous in this region and for the family, visit some of the summer resorts like Beriodet and Morbihan .Finally, no visit to Brittany would be complete without viewing some of the many exquisite little islands fringing the coast such as Ile de Brehat, Ile de Sein or Belle Ile.
Activities
Brittany has a multitude of options for the visitor , naturally it is justly famed for all types of water sports from swimming to surfing and also for sailing, fishing and boat trips. Brittany is also a great destination for those interested in walking, cycling and horse riding having over 800 kms of ‘Voies Vertes’, non motorised pathways with which to enjoy the countryside. Add to this golf, guided walks, wonderful parks and castles to visit plus aquariums and theme parks and you have a truly unforgettable holiday experience to look forward to.
Food and Drink
As can be imagined wonderful fresh sea food is top of the menu here, oysters, shrimps, crayfish, mussels, crab and scallops make fantastic sea food platter but don’t forget the famous Breton crepes which can contain any delicacy sweet or savoury. Brittany is also renowned for ‘Galettes’, crunchy butter bicuits.
When it comes to drink Bretons favour cider such as Cidre Brut Bouche and beers such as Coreff de Molaix, Tri Martolod and Britt.
Climate
Brittany has a warm temperate climate which can reach
up to 30 degrees in summer.
